Special Events


Mindful Meditation
We begin MINDFULNESS MEDITATION CLASSES  on Thursday, January 14, 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. at the Health and Harmony Center.  These will be "drop in" classes--in other words,  you don't have to register for the three if you prefer just to come when you can.  Charge is $10.00 per session.  Barbara Lee Hayes and I will be co-teaching this session.  It is open to both beginners and those with some meditation experience.
 
If you registered for the classes held last November - December and missed some of the classes you are welcome to use that credit for this session.

 

Transcendental Meditation

Transcendental Meditation Lecture is 7:45-8:45pm, the 3rd Thursday of every month with John Zisman. This class will review the benefits and process of meditation in the Transcendental Meditation approach. Those interested in learning the technique will then meet with John over a four day period.

Yoga for Sleep

   Getting adequate sleep is an important health issue, just like eating right, exercise, and not smoking. People with sleep problems may suffer from muscle aches, weak memory, inattention, irritability, mood swings, and increased susceptibility to illness.
From a yogic perspective, insomnia is due to the mind and body’s subtle energy being agitated, out of control and /or locked into disharmonious patterns. Yoga’s solution is to work directly with the body, energy and mind to reestablish sleep-friendly calmness and harmony on all levels.
    Yoga for Sleep routines offer this by integrating classical yoga tools, postures, breathing techniques and affirmations. These techniques, when performed along with healthy sleep habits, are most effective in assisting with the sound sleep you desire.

 

Laughter Yoga

Sanskrit Level I Course Description
The Sanskrit Training combines the two powers, Sanskrit and yoga, to create an educational adventure that will not only give you the joy of reading sutras in the original script, and pronouncing them with precision, but will change the way you perceive the learning experience forever. Operating through mutual agreement, participants break through old learning patterns based on the competitive, "get it right," model, and bond with the beauty and energy of Sanskrit as well as with each other.

What you will learn in the course of the weekend:

  • a powerful new learning model that teaches you the key to sustained one-pointed focus & gives you complete comfort and enjoyment in a group learning environment
  • the opening of your voice; your capacity to fully resonate and heal with sound
  • an intimate understanding of the structure of sacred sound: the Sanskrit Alphabet; knowledge & practice of the sounds of the alphabet
  • how to read Sanskrit, and use the recognition of the original script to enhance your experience of sacred sound
  • the essence of yoga, through the model of Patanjali's Yoga Sutras in the original script

Who is teaching:
Instructor Zoe Mai began practicing Ashtanga Yoga with Manju Jois in Philadelphia in 1995. In 2005 and 2006 she traveled to India to study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Rangaswamy. She began her study of Sanskrit in India. Upon returning to the States Zoe took her first Weekend Sanskrit Training with Vyaas Houston. The experience was illuminating and life transforming. After experiencing the ASI learning model, her study of Sanskrit became a graceful dance with a living breathing language. Since that first weekend training Zoe has taken every opportunity to study with Vyaas in an attempt to move more deeply into the language and fully imbibe the yoga based learning model of The American Sanskrit Institute. She is currently teaching college classes in Psychology, Yoga Philosophy and Sanskrit using only the ASI learning model.

GYROKINESIS®

     Gyrokinesis takes its cues from the body’s natural rotational movement.  This total body workout restores strength and fluidity to muscles and joints. Its fully rotational exercises build core and lean muscle strength while nourishing the body with focused breath work.
     Seven different movement principles (bending forward, extending backward, side bending right and left, rotating right and left, and circular) are harmoniously paired with breathing patterns and organized into a flowing workout that resembles a choreographed dance. In the end, Gyrokinesis trains the mind and body to move gracefully while producing a long, lean, powerful, and more flexible body.
     Classes begin seated on low stools and then move to floor and standing positions. The series of exercises are safe for the injured or just out of shape person as well as beneficial for the already fit person who wants to add another dimension to his/her exercise routine. Gyrokinesis teaches you how to sit erect, opens you up and creates space between your joints.  You will finish your session brimming with energy and wanting to stand and sit tall with a renewed uprightness.  Soon you will notice this flowing over into your daily living habits, leading to more optimal health.
     This unique system is based on principles from Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates, gymnastics, swimming, rowing, meditation and energy work.

Free Qi Gong Classes

Qi Gong is the ancient mind-body-spirit healing art practiced in China for morethan 5000 years. Qi is energy, th source of our well-being. When it is blocked or stagmant, our muscular, immune and nervous systems are compromised.  Qi Gong aims to collect and deliver Qi to our entire body, thugs improving health and reducing effects of stress. Led by Scott Helm, certified Supreme Science Qi Gong instructor.
